Item #68383 : Original period manufacture. Regulation coat and trousers, dark blue wool dress coat with white wool trim and gold lace sergeant chevrons. Lighter blue wool trousers with a 1 inch wide white wool stripe down the outer seam of each leg. Quilted cloth coat lining which was tailored by the NCO at some point in time, which caused some of the numbers and letters of the original issue stamps to be eliminated. In spite of this tailoring, we can still clearly see that the coat is marked (U) S.Q.M.D., (?) DA DEP, (size) 4, (8)6 - 87. Nice matched pair of gold lace on white wool Sergeant chevrons, one on each sleeve. Full complement of brass eagle buttons throughout, coat size about a 38 Long. The mothing which is present on the coat can be seen mostly on the white wool trim, the rear of the collar and both shoulder straps. There are also two 7 mm hole on the skirt front and rear. I feel they are not distracting and with a little effort can be made to disappear. The trousers are a lighter shade of blue, and as mentioned, each with a white wool stripe down the outer seam. There is a mix of suspender buttons on the waistband and fly, typical as suspender and fly buttons tend to let go without any warning. No real moth issues, just some staining to the white wool trouser stripes, and a repaired tear in the crotch. Old costumer stamp on the underside of the rear hip pocket lining, and the name F.LANKENAN handwritten on the lining of the right front pocket. Waist measures 32 inches, inseam 31 inches.
