Original era manufacture. An 1881 pattern helmet, with an 1897 Horstman contract stamp inside the sweatband. The helmet is very clean, with its appointments assembled from original parts at one time available from the venerable firms of Francis Bannerman and W. Stokes Kirk. The helmet body is not crushed or broken, and only displays mounting holes for one set of insignia, as shown. The edge binding is damage free, as is the thin leather band around the base of the helmet.Staff pattern eagle plate with a German silver Signal Corps device on the front, with Signal Corps side buttons. Strong orange color to the plume and wool cords, no chest cords were present with the helmet when we purchased it.
