Item #69881 : Original period manufacture. Regulation pattern sword adopted in 1872, being a lighter version of the 1860 model sword. The plain, polished steel blade measures 32 inches in length, stamped GERMANY on the reverse ricasso, along with the retailers name FRANK DE CARO, 169-171 GRAND STR. NEW YORK. The blade runs straight and true, no nicks in the cutting edge, displaying scattered areas of cleaned surface corrosion on both sides, the point remains sharp. Ornate cast brass three branch guard, bow and pommel cap. Black leather covered wooden bodied grip bound with a single strand of brass wire. Chromed finish steel scabbard with two brass suspension rings and ornate drag. The scabbard body is dent free, exhibiting areas of surface corrosion and staining. This weapon is rather plain in it's presentation, designed for an individual on a budget, be he a military officer or a member of a fraternal group, whose members also adopted regulation military swords for their use.
