Item #69692 : Original period manufacture. Serial number 446902, which according to the NPS data base, gives a manufacture date of April-June 1889. This is validated by the very clear cartouche on the left side of the stock which bears the inspector's initials SWP (Samuel W. Porter) and 1889 date. This is a very nice example of it's type, bright, bright bore, most of the original blue remains on the barrel, buttplate, sights, receiver, trigger, guard and hammer. Lots of original case hardening remains on the receiver cover. Buffington rear sight, standard blade sight up front. Original finish to the stock, with a clear circle P proof below the trigger guard and initials G.B. There are some minor dings, dents and abrasions to the wood surface, nothing out of line for a 134 year old rifle. I have one in my collection just as nice as this one but I don't need two. Make sure whatever patch of dirt you occupy in the lower 48 allows you to own old smokepoles like this. This is an antique rifle, but some states/municipalities apparently don't care.
