Original era manufacture. Horstman contract body with an 1891 contract date. The felt body is in sound condition, no cracks or dents, and the leather edge binding is sound. The thin leather band around the body of the helmet is likewise in good condition, with no issues. Brown leather sweatband is size marked 7, and in pliable condition. The stamped eagle helmet plate shows crossed rifles for Infantry. The side buttons are a curiosity, being Hunting Horns, instead of the normally seen crossed rifles. Perhaps a National Guard thing, not regulation as far as I can tell. Assembled from original parts, at one time available from the venerable firms of Francis Bannerman and W. Stokes Kirk.
