Original period manufacture. One of the early examples of the Army's attempt to provide a viable cartridge box for the newly modified 1866 Allin conversion, 50-70 rifle. Black bridle leather construction with an embossed US on the flap. Inside held 24 50-70 cartridges, secured by canvas loops. Clever belt loop on the reverse which allowed the pouch to be worn on wide, or narrow belts. Sound condition for it's age, all cartridge loops are present, the pouch is not crushed or oiled. Only flaw is a repairable tear on one side of the flap securing tab.
