Original era manufacture. A private purchase quality hat, of regulation pattern. Dark blue body, with an bound, black painted leather visor. The hat body shows considerable mothing, the sweatband is intact, with none of the original lining remaining. The adjustable leather chinstrap was broken, and has been repaired on one side, with two eagle buttons, one on each side, holding the strap in place.Now for the good news, on the front of the hat is a beautifully toned, hand embroidered officers Infantry insignia for the 17th regiment. I believe the insignia predates the hat, and by its size and quality would be more likely of the Civil War era. Hat size about a 7
