Original era manufacture. Designed to be used in concert with the experimental Palmer Brace System in the mid-1870's. The idea was an early attempt to address the problem of even weight distribution of equipment on the soldiers body. Never adopted for use after the trials period. This example is complete with its proper belt. Shows age from storage, not from use.
