Original period manufacture. Tan cotton drill material covered cork helmet with a removable ventilator at top. The thin green wool material covering the underside of the helmets rim shows considerable age and wear, intact leather sweatband with circular cork spacers. While the exterior of the helmet shows age and staining to the cloth cover, the body is quite sound with no dents or breaks in the cork. These helmets saw a great deal of service here in the Southwest as one can imagine.
