Original era manufacture. Similar in design to the Civil War era snaphook, but more narrow in construction, and by far less common than it's Civil War sibling.   All steel construction, snap spring is a little weak, but of interest, this example exhibits honest wear, with grooves worn in the bottom of the hook from the carrying ring on the carbine. Measures 2.25 inches in width at the roller.
