Original era manufacture. M1878 tan canvas covered circular canteen with a stenciled US on its cover. Original cork stopper with chain which is attached to one of the two triangular suspension loops. There is some light staining to the cover and a shallow dent or two in the body but it presents very well.The Signal Corps stencil is fairly clear, with the soldiers number 38 stenciled below. A great looking old canteen, with a unique unit marking to what would have been a very high-tech branch of service back in the day.
