Original era manufacture. US M1878 Canteen with a tan canvas cover with a clearUS stencil. The cover is lightly stained from service use, and you can feel some dents in the body, but overall it is very sound, with tight stitching, no tears, and acomplete cork stopper with chain.Attached to the canteen is a fairly current production sword-belt shoulder strap, which has been pressed into service as a canteen strap. Black bridle leather with sound stitching, and a brass hook at each end.
