Original era manufacture. Standard US M1878 Canteen with a tan canvas cover with original stenciled markings. The canteen is complete with its original cork stopper secured to a brass spout ring. The body is lightly dented, no fraying or holes in the cover, just typical soiling from age and use. Attached to the triangular suspension loops is an adjustable leather strap, with an upper connecting strap with a brass rectangular bridle buckle. Looks to be saddler made but of the period and sound for its age.
