Original era manufacture. M1878 tan canvas covered circular canteen with a stenciled US on its cover. Original cork stopper with chain which is attached to one of the two triangular suspension loops.There is some light staining to the cover and a shallow dent or two in the body but it presents very well.The US stencil isclear, with the soldiers number 44stenciled below. On the reverse of the canteen, is a stenciled Signal Service emblem, with a company number above, and the letters U.S.V. below.A great looking old canteen, with a unique unit marking to what would have been a very high-tech branch back in the day.
