Original era manufacture. This intriguing miniature sword appears to my eye to not be of current manufacture, with it's age possibly dating prior to WWII. There is nothing glitzy or flashy about it, all of the brass fittings exhibit fire-gilding and are nicely toned from age, with a level of quality equaling that of a full size sword. Dark yellow celluloid grip which may have been a lighter color at one time, but like the WWII German Army officers daggers has darkened over the years. The 7.75 inch chromed steel blade is etched, not engraved, on one side with the name Wm. F. Fitzgerald, and below, the trade name "Fabrica de Toledo Bermejo". Matching blade length scabbard with gilded fittings and a nicely enameled black steel body. Doing a quick look on Ancestry, many listings for a William F. Fitzgerald appear, some with the adjective Jr following the name. Interestingly a listing dated 1939 appears which shows an officer with that name, no Jr adjective, commanding the USS Cassin at Pearl Harbor, Territory of Hawaii. Overall length measures 10.5 inches.
