Original era manufacture. US Model 1872 Cavalry officers sword with a 34 inch polished steel blade with etched panels on  each side. The blade runs straight and true, the surface is very bright and clean with no corrosion issues.Gilded brass three branch guard decorated with a floral design, and a similarly decorated pommel cap. The guard is sound, no cracks or breaks, however the top most branch is bent forward a bit. Fish skin wrapped grip bound with a single strand of  twisted brass wire.Dent free polished steel scabbard with brass scabbard throat, suspension rings & bands, and drag. The steel surface shows staining and peppering from old cleaned corrosion but no unsightly areas of pitting.
