Original era manufacture. Experimental bayonet from the early 1870's, of a pattern which actually did see service in the field. Designed by Colonel Edmund Rice who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions while serving with the 14th Massachusetts Infantry, in repelling Picket's Charge during the Battle of Gettysburg. The blade is clean, no corrosion pitting, just some scattered areas of staining to the surface. Decent blue finish socket to the socket and shank. A final note, these were sold surplus by Bannerman's of New York in the late 19th century. He offered these for years in his catalogs suggesting them to be used as garden tools! Price, less than a dollar. Fun huh!
