Original period manufacture. Bright finished, very clean blade with a US proof and 1898 date on the ricasso. The blade is bright with no evidence of sharpening, just some scattered areas of staining. Original dark wood grips with two flush-ground steel rivets, with an old chip in the right grip panel as shown.  Toned steel smooth patina finish to the guard and pommel, intact and operable lock button. Scattered minor staining on the surface. Clean blue and steel patina finished steel 2nd pattern scabbard, with a dent just below the throat. Classic Spanish-American War service bayonet.
