Original era manufacture. An early production example with an 1894 blade date and first model scabbard. The blade is dark with some scattered light nicks in its cutting edge. Graying and spotting along its surface but no areas of deep pitting. Dark steel patina to the guard and pommel, decent wooden grips. Dark steel patina to the scabbard body which is mostly free of dents except for a small amount near the tip. The lock spacer on the hanger is missing which allows the hanger to swing all the way around. Must be a bit of grime or dirt inside the scabbard as the blade doesn't quite close up. The rig shows its age but likely dates from the first year production for this pattern bayonet and quite likely saw service during the Spanish-American War in 1898.
