Original era manufacture. Bright finished blade dated 1906 and stamped SA for Springfield Arsenal on its ricasso. This is first year production for the blade. Nice rough-hewn walnut grips with no cracks, steel patina finish to pommel and guard. The 1st model scabbard has the Krag pattern suspension and is marked R.I.A. on the reverse of the body below the throat. The metal throat and loop show old black surface rust with patches of blue finish beneath. The leather covering is basically sound, no dry rot and it has a nice lustre. The stitching has given way on the tip and up one side about five inches. The leather remains fairly pliable here so a repair may be possible. Scarce first model set-up.
