Original era manufacture. First year production bayonet with a bright finished blade with a small strip of blue at its base. 1906 blade date with SA proof for Springfield Arsenal. Smooth finish to the rough hewn walnut grips. The blade is bright but has some scattered spots of corrosion on each side. The edge has not been sharpened and the tip remains fairly sharp. At some point in this bayonets life the muzzle ring was struck leaving the opening out of round. At this point it will no longer fit over a rifle muzzle. It looks as if it would be able to be repaired using a proper size mandrel. A little bit of a project but a scarce bayonet nonetheless.
