Original era manufacture. A very well made medal with an enameled obverse, perhaps sold to the men of the Connecticut Infantry, who were stationed on the border at Nogales Arizona in 1916. Of interest, Connecticut provided 3,891 troops for border service in 1916, nearly all were stationed in Nogales Arizona, save for two batteries of artillery stationed in El Paso.Further, this medal does not appear in the excellent collector book "Medals for Service in Mexico and on the Mexican Border 1911-1916" Second Edition, Monograph No.2, OMSA, Margrave & Emerson. As the state of Connecticut did not issue a medal for border service, and no record of municipal medals exists, this may have been a private purchase medal, produced and sold to the troops as a souvenir of their service time. There wereover 3,000 troops stationed in the Nogales area in 1916, that was a big market target for the Arizona locals. Likely one enterprising sutler contacted Fastian Brothers of Rochester NY and had this medal made up for sale. This one has a light blue ribbon, and is designated for INF (Infantry), perhaps other color ribbons were produced as well.
