Original era manufacture. This is the earliest dated example of this well-known pattern sword we have ever owned. Standard 1840 model Musician's sword, made by Ames and dated 1847. That puts it smack-dab in the middle of the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848. In addition to that conflict, this sword was around for every day of the American Civil War 1861-1865, likely continuing it's service for many years after. The polished steel blade measures 28 inches in length, runs straight and true, with an even patina finish to the surfaces. No nicks, no corrosion, just needing a light bath to brighten it up a bit. Mellow brass patina finish to the guard, grip and pommel, with the grip being a tad loose. S.K. inspector's initials below the US on the ricasso. Honest age and wear. No scabbard.
