Original era manufacture. Here we have an issue sword, which from its appearance saw service during the Mexican-American War, and the American Civil War. Heavy, French inspired artillery sabre, with the polished steel blade running straight and true. The blade displays some minor spotting to the surface, with a few minor nicks in the edge, with scattered spotting and staining. US and inspector proofed JH on the obverse ricasso, and on the reverse, N.P. AMES CABOTVILLE 1845. The surface exhibits evidence of an old cleaning. Mellow brass patina finish to the single branch guard, Most of the original leather covering remains over the ribbed wood core, the wire binding is missing. Two suspension ring steel scabbard missing the throat guide, showing a mix of steel patina and surface corrosion finish. Service denting to the surface, most occurring on towards the bottom of the scabbard.
