Original era manufacture. Heavy cavalry sword patterned from the French Mle 1822 and made by Ames in 1849. A government contract of 2,000 was given in that year, with all being delivered. Very clean 35.5 inch polished steel blade with clear markings on its ricasso. The original leather bumper is in place, pleasing brass patina to the three branch guard, leather wrapped grip with single strand twisted brass wire. Heavy, dark patina steel scabbard with no dents and no heavy pitting. This sword hasn't been on the market in over 40 years, from an old collection here in Arizona. Very clean example.
