A well made older copy of the very scarce M1849 Ames Rifleman's Knife, complete with its leather bodied scabbard and frog. The blade is clean and bright, the brass fittings have and nice patina to them, and the scabbard and frog are made from good quality leather. This is an early copy, likely one of the example's done back in the 1960's, so it is very convincing. Original examples are very scarce, as less than 1000 were produced by Ames, so care, and educating yourself as to how the originals appear, needs to be used when shopping for one of these.Terri and I were fortunate to own an original example about 30 years ago, it now resides in the collection of the Arizona Historical Society in Tucson.
