Original period manufacture. A wonderfully original field grade Infantry officers Coatee, circa 1832-1845. Dark blue wool uniform, based on the regulation 1832 officers coat of the era, with white piping and underlays, silver brocade lace on the collar and cuffs. The tails of the coat are lined in white wool, the sleeves lined in white muslin; the body lining, likely made of silk, has been removed. A full complement of silver washed brass eagle buttons are present, with each button displaying the letter I in a shield on the eagle's chest. The buttons are very securely sewn to the body of the uniform, however I peeked behind one to inspect the makers marking;. Young, Smiths & Co, who operated in New York from 1830-1858. There are some very minor moth issues, really nothing much to consider. All of the seams are tight, the buttons are all snug, operable cuffs secured with three small size buttons. The uniform is understandably in a small size. A recent purchase at auction from an old upstate New York collection.
