Original era manufacture. A very nice blue finished bayonet with nearly 100% of its original finish remaining. Stamped horizontally over the U.S. proof is a Crown A 4 marking. Variant 1873 pattern scabbard with an extended frog with metal grommets and steel hooks for attaching to a looped cartridge belt. In the book American Socket Bayonets and Scabbards by Robert M. Reilly, he describes the bayonet as being produced for the Peabody M1867 rifle, with this particular blade proof as being destined for Canadian use (figures B133 & B133A) . The scabbard is described on page 172, figure 100.
