Original era manufacture. A lot of two Philippine Kris brought home from the Philippines by General Harry Hill Bandholtz, who served 13 years in the PI 1900-1913. The larger of the two features a wavy blade which is incised with an elaborate design on both sides, exhibiting a high degree of art and ability. Carved wood grip, bound with black string with bands of aluminum decoration. Blade measures 24 inches in length, the handle is loose and can be removed from the tang. The second of the two, has a straight, narrow leaf shaped blade measuring 17 inches in length. Steel patina finish with a nick in the edge about midway down. Nicely carved dark wood grip, which shows some chipping on the edge of the carved curl. Decorated rawhide scabbard with an aluminum suspension ring. General Harry Hill Bandholts had a long and distinguished career in the United States Army and is credited as being the father of the US Military Police Corps. During WWI, he served as Provost General of the AEF in France, and was sent to Hungary in 1919 to oversea the security of the capitol Budapest, and is honored by a stature placed there by the Hungarians, for his efforts in preventing the looting of the National Museum in 1919.
