Original era publication. Interesting collection of poems and ballards by the Poet Scout, Captain Jack Crawford. Published in 1893 by the Charles H. Kerr & Co. of Chicago. Wear to the covers, pages and text are sound. Captain Jack Crawford was a teetotaling Irish immigrant who served in the Civil War and later with the US Army in the West as a scout. He was quite famous in his day and published a number of books on his experiences. Wounded twice during the Civil War, he gained fame after riding 350 miles in six days to Fort Laramie carryign dispatches for the New York Herald.
