Original period manufacture. Cabinet Card image of Allen D. Spaulding who served in the 9th NY Volunteers "Hawkin's Zouaves" until mid-1863, then transferred to the 3rd New York Volunteers and mustered out with his regiment in 1865. This postwar image shows him wearing his GAR uniform, kepi and 1860 pattern sword, with a past commander Jewel on his chest along with his GAR membership badge and another medal. Brooklyn photographer, named on the reverse. The GAR past commander's jewel were often made of gold and beautifully made, and presented to the man upon his retirement.
