Original period manufacture. Nice quality four-piece ladder badge of an alloy metal, honoring the memory of Company D, 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. During the Civil War, the 23rd Ohio served in the Eastern Theater with the Army of the Potomac. It suffered the loss of 5 officers and 154 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded, and an additional officer and 130 men to disease. Two of its members, William McKinley and Rutherford B. Hayes would become President of the United States.
