Original era manufacture. A very nice quality example of a sword pattern which became general issue for US Army Infantry officers around 1872 and was worn during the Indian Wars and Spanish American War eras by a number of militia and fraternal organizations as well.Very clean polished steel sword measuring 30 inches in length, with etched panels on each side. At its ricasso is an unusual makers logo of a four legged animal, and on the opposite side, the name of the retailer, M.C.Lilley & Company of Columbus Ohio. German Manufactured.The cast brass guard features a gilded finish of which most remains, and one side folds down to allow ease of wear for the owner, the locking disc is missing. Dark gray fishskin wrapped grip bound with twisted brass wire.Dent free, chrome finished scabbard with gilded brass fittings. The scabbard is very clean and bright. At some point a previous owner added a fairly new sword knot to the guard.
