Original era manufacture. A very nice quality example of a sword pattern which became general issue for Foot officers during the Indian Wars and Spanish American War.Very clean polished steel sword measuring 30 inches in length. At its ricasso is an unusual makers logo of a four legged animal, and on the opposite side, the name of the retailer, M.C.Lilley & Company of Columbus Ohio.Etched panels on both sides of the diamond-shaped blade, showing intricate designs, panoply of arms, U.S. and the American eagle. The blade is very clean with a very small amount of staining but no pitting or surface corrosion. The cast brass guard features a gilded finish of which most remains, and one side folds down to allow ease of wear for the owner. Dark gray fishskin wrapped grip bound with twisted brass wire. Dent free, chrome finished scabbard with gilded brass fittings. The scabbard is very clean, showing some very fine peppering to the finish, but remains really quite nice for its age.Normal age and wear, only minor comment to make is that the guard rattles a bit, typical for an old sword.
