Original era manufacture. A very clean blade measuring 28 inches in length, running straight and true. There is an etched design on each side of the blade to include the letters G.A.R. the GAR medal, Union Soldier and other military themes.Cast brass, single clam shell guard and pommel, with intertwined letters GAR, black leather wrapped grip bound with a single strand of twisted brass wire. Minor flaking to the surface of the grip, typical for its age. At some point in the past someone drove two small flat-head nails into the base of the grip near the guard to keep the guard from rattling. Black painted steel scabbard with a decorative brass drag, single steel stud at the throat to allow the sword to be carried by a leather frog.Normal age and wear.
