Original era manufacture. Ohio Survivors of the Battle of Gettysburg 1913 reunion medal & ribbon. Presented to the Ohio veterans who attended the 50th Anniversary reunion at Gettysburg Pennsylvania in July 1913. This was the first large scale combined reunion of both Union and Confederate veterans.The medal is named on the reverse; J.K. Co. A. 8th O.V.I., it is complete with an original ribbon but missing its attaching pin.Corporal John Kershner (1831-1914) served in the 8th Ohio during the Civil War from June 1861 to July 1864.During the battle, the 8th Ohio mustered 209 men on the field and played an important, but little noticed effort in flanking the advancing Confederate infantry during the height of Pickett's Charge.He lies buried at Young's Cemetery, Liberty Center, Henry County Ohio Comes with a research file on him and the 8th Ohio infantry.
