Original era manufacture. A beautiful gold medal with an enameled obverse, worn by former members of the Army of the Potomac after the Civil War, 1861-1865.The society was founded in 1869, with its first president being General Philip Sheridan; the societies last annual reunion was held in 1927.Gold medal with an enameled obverse, with its original ribbon, numbered on the reverse 777. Most of these were produced by the Philadelphia jeweler Bailey, Banks & Biddle. It is a shame that the roster for the membership with their medal numbers does not exist, it would be wonderful to know the history of the soldier who wore this beautiful old medal.
