Original era manufacture. A private purchase quality hat, of 1872 regulation pattern, with a dark blue body and an unbound, black painted leather visor. Thin gold wire chin cord secured by thread on one side, and a straight pin on the other. Gold wire embroidered crossed sabers directly embroidered into the body of the hat, with the letters SV above, and 33 in the center. On the crown of the hat is a Pennsylvania Keystone, again directly embroidered into the body of the hat. Simple black cotton lining, with a brown leather chinstrap hand stitched to the body of the hat. There is some scattered mothing to the hat body (especially around the chinstrap button area), the chinstrap needs to be more securely attached and buttons found. The crossed sabre embroidery is just gorgeous, and the hat, in spite of it's obvious warts, displays really well.
