Item #69286 : Original period manufacture. Bronze planchet only, named on the rim to Wm.H.Sams Co.E. 11th Inf Rgt Vol. William H. (Harrison) Sams, born 1841, died 1920. Enlisted in Company E, 11th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry in 1862, serving to the end of the war and receiving his discharge at Richmond Virginia in 1865. During the War, the 11th lost 4 officers and 63 men mortally wounded or killed, with an additional 148 enlisted men to disease. Kernstown, 3rd Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek, Hatcher's Run, Siege of Petersburg, Appomattox Court House.
