Original era manufacture. US M1917 pattern helmet, but of stamped copper, not steel, and made without an edge reinforcement. Typical style chinstrap loops, with a central rivet to hold the liner in place. Being of copper, the surface finish has a decided greenish hue to it, rather clever when you think of it. No liner, or chinstrap, which would have likely been a rather simple affair, instead of the issue liner found in the combat helmet.Attached to the front of the helmet is a copper USMC emblem, multi-piece construction, with applied continents andbraided wire rope on the anchor.Helmets of this type were worn by veterans in Parades andHonor Guard ceremonies in the 1920's and 1930's and are fairly unusual to find. Earlier this year we sold an Army version, that one being of chromed metal with an Army pattern eagle at front. Both of these helmets came from the same long-time collection in Southern California.
