Original era manufacture. A fine quality sword with gilded brass fittings, 30 inch chromed steel blade with etched panels on each side, and a British brass proof disc on the ricasso. The blade runs fairly straight and true, with a slight bend to the left about 8 inches back from the poing. White fishskin grip bound with triple strand wire. Original gold brocade and bullion sword knot wrapped around the guard. Black leather scabbard with bright patina to the brass fittings. A panel on the reverse ricasso, displays the name of Thomas Michael Dykers, with his initials appearing on the scabbard throat. Overall the sword is in very sound condition, and comes with a cloth sword bag with a protective storage case. During the Vietnam War, Commander Dykjers commanded the USS Perch. Commissioned in January 1944, the Perch conducted 7 War Patrols during WWII, and served as a transport submarine during the Korean War. In 1965 Perch conducted search and rescue missions off of the coast of Vietnam, making two amphibious landings by UDT personnel on the South Vietnamese coast in November & December. She continued active service off of the coast of Vietnam until October 1966. She was sold for scrap in 1973.
