Original era manufacture. A very clean example of the US Foot Artillery Sword, copied from the French, and originally inspired by the Roman Gladius.Polished steel, double edged blade measuring 19 inches in length, Ames logo on one side of the ricasso, and United States 1835 on the other. The blade surface is very clean, with a few shallow nicks in the edges. Heavy cast brass guard and grip with a fish-scale design, ending with an eagle design on the pommel. Stamped into each side of the guard is the name C.C.Jackson in tiny lettering.Very sound original black leather bodied scabbard with brass throat and chape. The stitching is unbroken, and the scabbard body has not been broken.
