Original period manufacture. Here we have an example of one of the most unique pistols ever adopted for the US Army. Percussion, single shot pistol in .58 caliber which was designed for the addition of an attachable/detachable shoulder stock. Thisenabled the soldier to usethe weapon as a pistol when mounted, or a carbine with stock attachedwhen dismounted. Our example is basically sound but does need some restoration efforts, or it can provide needed partsfor a nicer example. The hammer does not hold on cock, or half cock, the Maynard Tape Primer hinged cover is missing and there are a few cracks in the body of the stock itself. A really great looking vintage set of initials have been carved into the reverse of the stock, JMR. The year 1855 can be seen to the left of the hammer and US Springfield towards the end of the lock.In Flaydermans 9th edition, this pistol is listed with a good value of $1750, and fine condition (each without stock) at $6500. Someone should be able to make good use from this old soldier.
