Original era manufacture. Circa 1840-1860, double edged straight blade, with an etched design on each side of the 26 inch blade. Simple cast brass guard, bone grip with a ridged design, with a knights helmet pommel cap.Black leather bodied scabbard with a gilded brass throat and chape. The stitching is very sound, with a nice luster to the leather surface.There is not a makers mark on the ricasso, and theblade may havebeen shortened at some point in the past to serve as a cadet sword. The etched design is quite clear, likely Ames manufacture.
