Original era manufacture. This old sword has an interesting tale to tell. Basically a standard M1906 pattern Cavalry sword with a steel guard and made by AC Co, and dated 1906. The guard and pommel display an old black paint finish, sound, leather wrapped grip, bound with single strand twisted brass wire.Attached to the guard, is an original brown leather sword knot, itself dated 1906 and made by Rock Island Arsenal, with an assortment of scattered unit markings. The scabbard is incorrect for this pattern sword, having the wide spaced carrying rings instead of the closer set rings, correct for the 1906 pattern. The scabbard exhibits a mix of blue steel and dark patina finish, with scattered denting along its length from use and wear. Attached to the suspension rings is an original set of 1909 dated enlisted sword hangers, RIA marked, with unit designations to the 1st New York Cavalry.I said at the beginning this old sword had an interesting tale to tell, that being the United Costumer's initials UC on the ricasso. Who knows how many John Wayne movies this old sword played a supporting role in. Perhaps that was when the scabbard was switched out.
