Original era manufacture. Another unique product from the firm of Francis Bannerman & Son of New York. We don't have the space to give the history of Bannerman's, let me simply state, that in my opinion, they/he are the Godfather's of the military antiques business here in the USA. They purchased so much of the Civil War, Indian War, Spanish-American War US Government surplus that they had to find creative ways to move the product. This candle holder is one such example. It uses an original brass plume holder and base for the 1881 mounted helmet with a commercial brass candle base. Original Bannerman's label on the underside of the wooden base tells the tale. The individual components were not damaged in the construction of this piece, priced for the value of the plume socket alone, originals are near impossible to find.
