Item #68401 : Original period manufacture. Fantastic identified dress coat, and dress cape, once worn by Cecil C. Vaughn, 1868-1929, who in 1917 served as commander of the Virginia Militia. He served briefly as the commander of the AEF's 29th Division, discharged due to health reasons prior to the 29th Division sailed for France. Son of a Confederate Civil War soldier, his relationship with the Virginia Militia began in 1892, serving as 2nd Lieutenant in Company I, 4th Virginia Infantry, later as Captain of same, when the regiment sailed for Cuba in 1899. The lot includes the following, US regulation Brigadier General double breasted frock coat, named to General Vaughan, with matching rank full dress cased epaulettes, regulation general officer dark blue wool trousers with double gold strip on the outside seam. Matching material regulation general officer's cape, named to General Vaughan. Added to the grouping is a period era army officers dress chapeau, along with a field grade officers gold brocade sword belt. No moth issues to mention, inside the collar the facing material is missing, some of the edge stitching has opened up on the epaulettes, no damage to the fringe. The belt is in fair condition, the brocade cover stitching has opened up on the sides but the belt remains pliable. Comes with a portfolio with several pages of printed information regarding the history of General Vaughan.
