Original period manufacture. Acomplete example of the bayonet pattern adopted for use with the M1903 Springfield Rifle prior to WWI.1906 blade date on the blade ricasso, made by Springfield Arsenal. The blade is finished in the bright with clear markings.Steel patina finish to the guard and pommel, the lock mechanism works properly. Original, roughhewnwood gripswith a dark finish. The leather covering on the wooden bodied scabbard is sound with a nice luster to the surface and clear markings. Stitching open on the tip. Blue steel finished, Krag style hanger with scattered spots of surface corrosion. There are a few nail catchers in the edge, but only one that can really be seen. It's a tough call to determine (at least for me) if the edge has been sharpened, certainly nothing really glaring, just sort of a hint in the surface of the steel. The point is very slightly rounded but again nothing really glaring. The steel has a nice luster to the surface, just some minor staining that mightbe able to disappear with a careful cleaning.
