Original period manufacture. A complete example of the bayonet pattern adopted for use with the M1903 Springfield Rifle.1906 blade date on the ricasso, made by Springfield Arsenal. The blade was finished in the bright, but has had a blue finish applied, likely during WWI. The edge displays a foolish attempt at sharpening, most of which could be made to blend with some cold blue perhaps The tip is properly pointed and there are no nicks in the cutting edge.Matching steel patina finish with no pitting to the guard and pommel, the lock mechanism works properly. Original, rough hewn wood grips with a dark finish, no cracks or chips in the wood. The leather covering on the wooden bodied scabbard is scuffed towards the lower third of the body, with the stitching opened, but remaining pliable and not shrunken.Mix of blue finish and surface corrosion to the Krag type hanger.
