Original period manufacture. A sound and complete example of the bayonet pattern adopted for use with the M1903 Springfield Rifle.1909 blade date on the ricasso, made by Springfield Arsenal. The blade was finished in the bright, now displaying an even, bright steel patina finish, no evidence of surface corrosion, or pitting to the surface. The tip is properly pointed and there are no nicks in the cutting edge.Matching steel patina finish with no pitting to the guard and pommel, the lock mechanism works properly. Original, rough hewn wood grips in original finish, no cracks or chips in the wood. The leather covering on the wooden bodied scabbard displays sound stitching, with good color and no scuffing or rot, just typical shallow dings and dents from service use. The revere of the body is dated 1909 and maker marked R.I.A. There is some splitting of the threads at the tip of the scabbard, sound otherwise. Blue finished Krag style hanger display some light surface corrosion, but most of the blue remains intact.
